What to Wear for Your Studio Photography Session

This is a must read if anyone who is coming into the studio for a newborn session, family session or a mini session, each session is incredibly precious and we want to get you looking amazing.

Capturing you all in beautifully composed photographs is a fantastic way to cherish them for a lifetime, not to mention to give as presents, but when it comes to choosing your outfits for the session with me, your choices can significantly impact the final results. In this blog post, I'll discuss what to wear and what not to wear during your studio photography session.

What to Wear: White and Light Clothing with No Stripes or Logos

When it comes to dressing your family for a photography session in my studio, simplicity is key. The goal is to draw attention to your faces and create a timeless, classic look that won't distract from the main subject. Here are some recommendations for what to wear:

1.White and Light Colors: Light and neutral colors like white, cream, soft pastels, or light gray are great choices. These colors create a clean and timeless look and provide a soft backdrop that complements your delicate features.

2. Solid Colors: Opt for solid-colored clothing for everyone involved in the photoshoot. Solid colors tend to look more cohesive and pleasing in photos.

3. Coordinate, Don't Match: Instead of having everyone wear the exact same outfit, coordinate your outfits to create a harmonious look. This way, each family member can express their individual style while still appearing coordinated.

4. Comfort is Key: As the studio is warm and you may be sat for a while, especially if you’re in for a newborn session. Please feel free to change into the clothes that you are going to wear in your photos.

5. Accessories: Keep accessories to a minimum.

What Not to Wear: Dark Clothing and Stripes

While there are no hard and fast rules in the world of photography, there are some things you should generally avoid when dressing for your studio photography session with me:

1. Dark Colors: Dark colors like black, deep navy, or dark red can absorb light and make you appear more serious or somber. If that’s you, then go for it. But ideally light and neutral tones please.

2. Stripes and Busy Patterns: Stripes, bold patterns, or clothing with logos can be distracting in photos. The focus should be on you, and busy patterns can divert attention.

3. Neon or Bright Colors: Vibrant, neon colors can be harsh on the eyes and detract from the overall mood of the photos. Stick to softer, more muted tones.

4. Overly Trendy or Dated Outfits: While you might love that trendy outfit you bought, it's important to think about the longevity of your photos. Overly trendy or very dated clothing can make your images look less timeless.

Remember, you guys are the star of the show, when everyone is dressed in white and light colours, it creates a sense of unity and purity in your photos, making them even more timeless.

By following these tips and avoiding dark clothing, stripes, and busy patterns, you'll ensure that the focus remains on your precious family, making your photos a cherished keepsake for years to come.
